2019 Tesla Model X Step by Step Windshield Replacement

It is well known that windshield on new vehicles have become a challenge for most Auto Glass companies. A windshield is no longer a piece of glass that protects the cabin of the vehicle, these new windshields come equipped with cameras, sensors, radars and more.  A good example of this is the new Tesla Model X which is one of the largest windshields ever made for an SUV.

Here is the step by step instructions on how to remove and replace the windshield professionally

1. Remove wiper locking nuts under the hood

2. Disconnect the windshield washer fluid tube

3. Using a plastic panel tool remove the clips under the A-pillar on the passenger side. There two A-pillars. We are removing the upper A-pillar first. ( See picture for location of clips )

4. Next, we are removing the second A-pillar (Largest) Remove 4 bolts ( 3 bolts # 10, 1 #13 ) and the T Hex 15 screw. Carefully slide the A-pillar up and disconnect the speaker and the Microphone connectors on the bottom of the A-pillar.

5. To remove the visor, remove the 3 bolts as shown in the picture and disconnect the cable coming from the visor.

6. Next, we are removing the mirror cover. We start with the tiny one first. For this, you will need a credit card to slide it between the plastics to release the tiny clips behind that plastic. ( see picture )

7. Now, to remove the larger mirror cover you need to remove 2 T-hex # 10 screws as shown in the picture. After that, unclip the cover from the sides ( yellow arrows )

8. To remove the mirror, twist the mirror arm clockwise and unplug mirror connection

9. The camera bracket has 8 T hex #10 screws, make sure to remove them without dropping them.  Also, disconnect the plugs leaving the camera connected.

10. Next, unclip the wire cover that runs from the back to the mirror. Use a plastic panel tool to remove it from the side

11. After you have removed all these things, is time to cut out the windshield. We recommend using a wax-based fiver line to prevent scratches on the body and pitchwell.

12. Apply primer in areas where metal has been exposed.

13. After that run the urethane on the body of the vehicle and set glass.

14. Due to the large size of this windshield, we needed 4 technicians to set this glass safety.
