What features does my windshield have ?

WINDSHIELD FEATURES EXPLAINED

As technology makes further advances in the auto industry, many features are added to the windshield to make your vehicle safer to drive. If you are not familiar with the features on your windshield, this blog will help you figure out what your precious vehicle has. If you don’t know which features are on your vehicle after reading this article, do not hesitate to call Auto Glass Express. Our friendly staff is ready to answer any of the questions you might have about your windshield replacement.

Let’s begin.

STANDARD WINDSHIELD

This is the most simple windshield any vehicle could have. It has a rear view mirror.r bracket and that’s it. Plain and simple.

CONDENSATION SENSOR

This is a very neat feature to have if you live in a very humid area. This sensor measures the level of humidity inside the car and if the humidity level is too high it will turn on the vehicle’s internal fans to get all the moisture out of your car. This is extremely helpful if you like me who forgets to close the windows of my vehicle when is raining.

HEATED WINDSHIELD

Nowadays many vehicles (especially SUVs ) come equipped with a heated windshield. This is a nice feature to have if you do not like waiting for the snow to melt wiper you are waiting for your vehicle to warm up. You can actually see the wires that are built inside the windshield. However, some vehicles have the wires behind the back paint on the bottom of the windshield which makes it hard to tell if you have a heated windshield

RAIN SENSOR

This is where the fun begins. Rain sensors come in all types of shapes. Squares, circles, rectangular they all look different depending on what type of vehicle you have. Overall most of these sensors look like bubbles/lenses and they are always next to the rearview mirror.  See the pictures below to have an idea what they look like.

FORWARD COLLISION ALERT ( ADAS ) & LANE DEPARTURE WARNING SYSTEM ( LDWS)

This is what is new in the auto glass industry. Not only is a nice feature to have in your vehicle but it also makes driving safer. The forward collision alert will warm you if your vehicle is getting too close to the vehicle in front of you. In addition to that, it will prevent any forward collision by automatically slowing down your vehicle.  The lane departure warning system will give you a warning if you are getting off the driving lane or if your vehicle is getting off the main road. Just like the rain sensor, these features look different in every vehicle but here are some pictures to help you identify if you got one.

HEADS UP DISPLAY

Have you seen those futuristic vehicles which show the speed of the vehicle on the windshield? Well, the future has been here. Heads up display windshields have been an option for a high-end vehicle since the early 2000s. These windshields have a special reflective layer built inside the glass which allows you to see the projection of your dashboard camera on the windshield. Pretty cool stuff if you ask me.
